During the 2023 Sensor Shenzhen, AUDIOWELL AK2 ultrasonic sensor attracted much attention from the industry. on March 30th, at the 2nd Automotive Electronics Summit held at the same time, AUDIOWELL delivered a keynote speech, “Ultrasonic Radar Entering the AK2 Era”, which discussed the superiority of the AK2 ultrasonic sensor in terms of the market situation, the radar product characteristics, and the industry outlook.

As the smart car market enters the recovery period, the proportion of 2022 passenger cars equipped with automatic parking function as standard is gradually picking up. Gaogong Intelligent Automobile Research Institute expects that in 2023, the Chinese market will exceed 20% of the rate of front-loaded automatic parking function, at the same time, benefiting from the scale of the landing of the line parked one, the automatic parking market will enter a period of rapid development.

In this way, will drive the core parking sensor - ultrasonic radar market into a new development “fast lane”. ZOS Information Consulting predicts that in 2025, the installed volume of ultrasonic radar in domestic passenger cars is expected to exceed 140 million.

While the market is expanding, the technology is being updated. AUDIOWELL, which has ploughed into the field of automotive electronics for more than 20 years, has launched a new generation of new radar products that can be coded and frequency modulated: AK2 ultrasonic sensor, which is a new type of radar that realizes the switching of both near and far ranging and is mass-produced and installed in automotive.

AK2 Ultrasonic Sensor

The biggest difference between AK2 ultrasonic sensor and traditional radar is to improve the anti-interference ability of the product through signal adjustment.

Traditional ultrasonic radar working frequency is more concentrated, in order to avoid the same frequency interference when working together, all the probes on the same side of the bumper need to transmit ultrasonic waves through software algorithms in turn, resulting in a long system refresh cycle.

AK2 ultrasonic sensor can realize the simultaneous sending and receiving of multiple sensors through the unique ultrasonic signal coding mode, the coding function can not only send standard ultrasonic signals, but also provide two other ultrasonic coding signals: up-frequency and down-frequency modes, so that the ultrasonic radar can send different ultrasonic signals at the same time, which greatly shortens the system refresh cycle, and the system is more efficient. The ECU can filter the detected target echoes based on the confidence value, thus improving the reliability of the detection performance. The encoded signals are more resistant to noise, resulting in better performance.

Dramatic improvement in range measurement capability

AK2 ultrasonic sensor can detect objects within a range of 7 meters, which is much larger than the length of a standard car parking space (5.3 meters) and the body length of various types of cars (2.5~2.7 meters for A-class cars, 4.75~4.9 meters for B-class cars, 4.9~5.2 meters for C-class cars, and 5.2~6 meters for D-class cars), which expands the scope of ultrasonic radar application from A/B-type cars to all passenger cars within the category of D, and meets the requirements of AK2. This enables the application range of ultrasonic radar to be expanded from A/B type cars to all types of passenger cars including D type, and meets the obstacle detection requirements of intelligent parking systems for all types of cars.

The minimum blind zone of the product can be up to 15cm, which can more accurately sense the objects in the visual blind zone in the near distance, and recognize and plan for smaller and narrower parking spaces.

Codable frequency modulation to realize the switch between near and far distance measurement

The product supports frequency modulation, and has 8K modulation bandwidth, so that the signal is not limited to the rated modulation band, greatly improving the difference in sensing results, to avoid the same frequency interference.

AK2 ultrasonic sensor can realize long-distance and short-distance ranging switching, and keep the bar single detection refreshing fast, refreshing time <40ms; it can carry 6 sensors to work synchronously with a variety of coding settings, fixed-frequency setting conditions, and the system can control the sensor's working mode according to the function.

Compliance with ASIL-B functional safety level

In accordance with the globally recognized automotive functional safety standard ISO 26262-2018 requirements, AUDIOWELL strictly follows the ISO 26262 functional safety development process for product design, so that the product meets the functional safety ASIL-B level requirements, providing safety protection solutions for automotive parking and parking applications, and meeting the functional safety development requirements of the world's first-class OEMs and Tier1.

Mass Production Description

At present, AUDIOWELL has already acquired the project set points of mainstream joint venture brands and independent brands, and has already begun mass delivery and marketing in 2022.
