National Science Popularization Day Activities | Sensor Basics Science Popularization

2023-09-22 Technology

In 2002, China's first science popularization law, the "Law of the People's Republic of China on Popularization of Science and Technology", was promulgated and implemented. Since 2005, one week from the third public holiday in September each year has been designated as the time to carry out National Science Popularization Day activities. This year is the 20th National Popularization of Science Day, the theme is: to enhance the scientific quality of the whole people, help science and technology self-reliance and self-improvement.

China's sensor development history

Sensors are a very important part of China's strategy to strengthen the country's science and technology, it can be said that the more developed science and technology, the higher the degree of automation, the greater the dependence on sensors. China began to get involved in the sensor manufacturing industry as early as the 1960s.

China in 1972 to set up China's first batch of piezoresistive sensor development and production units; in 1974, the development of China's first successful use of piezoresistive pressure sensors; in 1982, the earliest domestic silicon micro-mechanical systems (MEMS) machining technology and SOI (Silicon on Insulator) technology research; into the 21st century, the sensor manufacturing industry began to develop by the traditional manufacturing to the intelligent development.

what is a sensor?

Sensors are an important means of information acquisition and information conversion can feel the measured information, and can detect the felt information, according to certain laws, transformed into electrical signals or other required forms of information output to meet the transmission, processing, storage, display, recording and control of information and other requirements, is to realize the information technology is one of the basic technology.

Sensors are generally composed of sensitive components, conversion components, conversion circuits and auxiliary power supply four parts.

Types of sensors

At present, there is a lack of international guidelines and norms for the development of international standards, so there is no accurate categorization criteria. There are many ways to classify their types, which can be divided according to the form of use, constituent materials, principles, and manufacturing processes.

According to the physical properties of the sensor material, it can be divided into conductor sensors, insulator sensors, semiconductor sensors and magnetic material sensors. Among them, semiconductor sensors are mainly made of semiconductor materials (such as: silicon, germanium, etc.) insulator sensors are common materials are piezoelectric ceramics.

In addition, the use of sensors is also a more common method of division: classified according to the measured physical quantities, a direct indication of the use of sensors, and a variety of information to be measured, such as distance sensors, flow sensors, pressure sensors, etc., to facilitate the understanding and selection of sensors.
